Artificial Intelligence for the People of the World
Towards Open, Ethical, and Collectively Owned AI
Background
In the current development of artificial intelligence (AI), the majority of AI technology is owned and controlled by large corporations or elite global institutions. Models are trained using public data from around the world, but the results are locked behind paywalls, licenses, or closed platforms. The global public remains passive users without sovereignty.
Amid this situation, a revolutionary idea has emerged: What if AI were built by the people, funded by a global community, and its benefits returned to the people?
This idea was not born in Silicon Valley, but from an independent admin who has spent years building public-serving platforms without corporate interests. This vision is not just about technology, but about digital sovereignty, knowledge justice, and the future of human civilization.
Objectives
- To create an AI model that is open, transparent, and publicly accessible.
- To build AI infrastructure that is collectively owned by communities, not closed entities.
- To provide AI access for education, agriculture, health, culture, and public policy.
- To form a union of nations and independent communities to fund and safeguard AI as a public asset.
Role of Governments
Governments have a strategic role in realizing fair and open AI for all citizens. However, their involvement must follow principles of transparency, non-domination, and accountability.
Encouraged Roles:
- Provide public funding for the development of open AI models
- Facilitate infrastructure and technological access in their regions
- Promote AI development based on local languages and cultures
- Act as partners in the dissemination and education of AI use
Limitations of Involvement:
- Governments must not unilaterally control AI models, data, or outputs
- AI must not be used for excessive surveillance or propaganda
- Any contribution from a government must adhere to the ethical charter and transparency principles of the AI for the People movement
Governments joining the coalition will sign the AI for the People Support Charter, ensuring that their involvement is solely to support global digital sovereignty—not geopolitical dominance or unilateral control.
Forms of Initiative
- Establishment of the People's AI Foundation
- Global fundraising (cross-country crowdfunding)
- Development and maintenance of open-source AI models (based on language, culture, and local needs)
- Creation of educational wikis and open documentation
- Collaboration with open-source communities, universities, and developing countries
Core Values
- Transparency: Models, data, and processes are publicly auditable
- Ethics: AI serves humans, with no data exploitation or systemic bias
- Global Solidarity: AI is built together, owned together
- Real-World Benefit: Focus on meaningful applications, not just commercial innovation
Closing
AI is the most powerful thinking tool in human history. But if it is controlled by a few, then the future will be dictated by the few.
It is time for intelligence to return to the hands of the people.
With this initiative, we invite individuals, communities, nations, and organizations to collectively build a digital civilization that is fair, open, and shared by all.
